Rudolph Genealogy Research Timeline
Genealogy Events for Rudolphs in the 1700s and early 1800s, primarily but not exclusively focused on Southeastern Pennsylvania

My known Rudolph ancestors resided in Southeastern Pennsylvania in the 1700s. In researching these ancestors, I have accumulated a repository of genealogy information on many of the Rudolphs, Rudulphs, Rudolfs, etc., of that time and place. This page attempts to share that repository with other Rudolph researchers. This page is meant only as a finding-aid for other researchers. Most items listed here are not original records nor primary sources and should not be relied upon. They are presented here merely to save other researchers time or give clues for finding their own information. Hope you find something helpful here.

Genealogy

Mrs. William J. Holmes
1701 Montgomery
Philadelphia, Penna.

Dear Mrs. Holmes
Your letter reached me yesterday and I was very glad indeed to learn something further about the Rudolphs long ago. But I am afraid that I can not help you out on the marriage of Ann Rudolph to Wm Jackson.
Of what line was Ann?
I have three Rudolph Rudulph lines an probably if we work the matter out a little more clearly we may e able to fit things together.

1) I have data on Tobias Rudolph of Phila. and his only child and heir, John, born1759 – Oct 4; m. (1) June 29, 1780, Anna dau. of John Branch, (2) Jan. 7 1836 Jane Abel Lloyd. Children: Mercy (Maria) b. Dec 21, 1782; John, b. Nov. 30, 1791. (I do not think Ann of this line)

2) Re. John Rudolph M. Mary Bonsall Jan 20, 1740 children:
1. Joseph b. Dec 23, 1741, d. Apr 4, 1795; m. Mary Gray June 2, 1763; children: Geo., Elizabeth, John Joseph, Wm., Mary (m 1. Jackson m. 2. John Silence), Phillip
2. Jacob, b. May 28, 1744; d. Mar 14, 795; m. Judith Yocum, Oct 28, 1765; children: James, Joseph, Jacob, Mary, Lydia
3. Ann b Nov 12, 1746; m. Col. Benj. Paschall. Apr 14, 1768; no issue;
4. John b June 3, 1749, d. Sept 3, 1789 intestate and without issue
5. Hannah, b. Feb 21, 1774; m. John Mitchell, no issue
6. Benjamin b. May 11, 1762, d. Sept 23, 1762
The three son of John and Mary(Bonsall) Rudulph (Rudolph) – Joseph, Jacob and John served in the revolution. You will note that their daughter Ann m. Benj. Paschall; while Joseph Daughter Mary m. ____ Jackson (She was a widow in 1801). It seems hat you an should be of this family judging from similarity of given names. But how? This family belonged to the Society of Quakers or Friends while the Rudolphs mentioned by you were members of Christ Church, Phila.

3) Then I have data re. The Cecil Co MD Rudulphs family of which my husband is a member (She was not of this line)

In looking over my notes again, I find Rudolphs who were members of St. Michael’s Evan. Lutheran Ch. of Germantown. Johannes Rudolph and his wife Anna Appolonia Rudolph had Johann b. Jul 13, 1757 and Anna Margreth b. Sept 15, 1746 Could you’re an have been of this line? Anna Appolonia Rudolph died in 1775 aged 77.

STRAYED from Robert LewisMill, on the Head of Sassafras, in Maryland, on the 26th of Fourth Month 1758, a Chestnut coloured Horse, 5 or 6 Years old, about 13 Hands and a Half high, and inn good Order, a switch Tail and hanging Mane, trimmed between his Ears and Part of his neck, branded it is thought on the near Shoulder with the Letter T, but as he has very long Hair, the Letter is scarce perceivable in the Fall, or Winter, he is supposed to have white Hairs in his Face; is not fully broke, being very wild and bad to catch, and is a great Jumper; he was supposed to be seen going towards the Head of Elk River or Nottingham; and as he was brought by Lancaster, is supposed to be gone that Way. Whoever brings said Horse either to Robert Lewis, junior, at said Mills, or Richard Thomson, Ranger, in Cecil County, or Tobias Rudolph, at the Head of Elk, shall have Twenty Shillings Reward, and reasonable Charges paid by either of them. And as it is not unlikely but that he may be entered with some of the County or Deputy Rangers, it is hoped they will be so kind as to acquaint some of the above Persons or Robert Lewis, of Philadelphia, who will send for him,. and pay the Cost.
